Introduction

In the era of globalization and digital transformation, innovation in the built environment has become a priority to ensure the achievement of sustainable and smart development. The younger generation needs to be trained to think critically, creatively, and innovatively in addressing real-world issues related to urban living, spatial design, green technology, and community well-being.

The Idea, Innovation & Invention Built Environment International Competition (i3BEIC) is an initiative by School of Housing, Building, and Planning, Universiti Sains Malaysia to provide an open platform for students from various educational levels to present ideas, innovations, and new inventions related to the built environment. Through a hybrid approach (physical and online), this program also aligns with the USM Digital Campus agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Objectives

To cultivate a culture of innovation and healthy competitiveness among USM students through team-based engagement and opportunities for direct benchmarking of ideas with innovation teams from local and international institutions.  To strengthen digital competencies, problem-solving skills, and team synergy among USM students through the practical application of IoT technologies in addressing real-world challenges within the built environment.

To produce holistic USM graduates (HEBAT) with a strong sense of sustainability through team-based project development that integrates green design principles and humanistic values, in alignment with the USM Digital Campus agenda and the SDGs.

To enhance employability, self-confidence, and global visibility of HBP and USM students through exhibitions and recognition of team achievements in innovation competitions at the international level.
